Helen Farmer grew up in a house full of curious things in Knoxville, Tennessee. There, she developed her sincere fascination with impractical, surprising, absurd, idealistic and romantic objects. Helen grew up in the suburbs, which always felt a little unfitting. She is a committed maker. While creating, she gives all her attention to the nuances of the materials and processes. She hopes that the end products become tangible fantasies that question what is considered precious, needed, or necessary. Helen received her BFA from the University of Tennessee. She has shown her work in museums and galleries in Tennessee, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wisconsin. In 2005 she participated in the Student Artist in Residency Program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland and in 2006 was an Artist in Residence at Platteforum in Denver, CO. Helen currently is an MFA candidate at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. |
